"Looks like somebody's got a case of the Mondays"

spamalot.jpg
Ugh. I don't know if it's the holiday week or just an exhausting weekend, but I am worn out today. If you didn't catch it, I had an education story that ran Saturday in Metro that I think came together pretty well. It was certainly the best lede I've written since I've been here, which is a relief because I consider that to be a strong point for me. I had never written a pure "hard news" story before I got here, so I've been adapting to that style, and it doesn't really lend itself to "artsy" writing.

And again Sunday, Derek and Mike held down the front page -- those kids are sick.

In my continuing efforts to make sure I don't have a dime to show for my work at the end of the summer, I went to Spamalot yesterday with my girlfriend and loved it, although the first act was a little shaky. I was however shocked to learn that she had in fact never seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail -- which as Matthew and I were just discussing, is completely unacceptable. I was thinking, what other movies fall into the category of "If you have a pulse, you're expected to have seen it?"

My top three would have to be Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

What are yours, fellow interns, co-workers and Internal Affairs fans (both of you)?

Comments

Before Kip inundates the comments with the top 792 movies you can't miss, here are my three:
1. Save the Last Dance
2. Beethoven's 4th
3. Iron Will

By the way, did you know there was a Home Alone 4?

I think you forgot Snakes on a Plane.

It IS totally UNacceptable to have not seen Holy Grail. By the way, I saw Spamalot last weekend and loved it too. :)

My three movies: Clue, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

4. A Year without Santa Claus
5. 2 White Kids with Problems
6. Fishing with George

Well, since you asked...

1) Elephant
2) Bringing Up Baby
3) The Princess Bride

The first one is an important but difficult movie, the other two are quite simply the most delightful movies you'll ever see. Oh, and yes, there are plenty more. These are just my top 3 as of now. And yes, Matthew, I was aware of a "Home Alone 4." And in my Facebook review, it would say "I know Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. And you, French Stewart, are no Joe Pesci or Daniel Stern."

Princess Bride?
Beethoven's 4th?
2 White Kids with Problems?

Yikes, I must be getting old (and I'm only 37).

1.Breakfast At Tiffany's
2.Princess Bride
3.Grease

I can't believe you guys missed the Joe Pesci Danny Glover smash hit Gone Fishin'.

Also:
Short Circuit 2
Major League 3 (back to the minors)
Howard the Duck

Now Howard the Duck is a difficult but important movie if ever there was one.

Major props to Mike for Short Circuit 2. Short Cicruit 1 & 2 was a standard Saturday for me from grades 4-8

I think "Gone Fishin'" falls into the same category as "Date Movie": "Movies That are Very Short but Feel Like an Eternity." And it appears all of a sudden the comments have changed from "Must-See Movies" to "Movies So Bad They're Almost Good," to which I'd definitely add "Surf Ninjas" (it contains Rob Schneider's finest performance--which isn't saying much) and certainly the creme de la creme of so-bad-they're-good movies is "Batman the Movie" starring Adam West and Burt Ward. It's probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Check out the movies blog (http://movies.beloblog.com/) to see my discussion about the best movie endings (including "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"). It should be up soon.

Side note: Since I always tend to come home with a bunch of free crap that's been up for grabs in the mail room, my mom always asks me if I can get free "Spamalot" tickets and I'm like, "Mom. They're not just going to be giving those things away" but she doesn't believe me.
