Afternoon Yak

"Yup, Go-to-Guy's the only one who liked this movie." (Universal)
So what do employees on the 4th floor do when there's an Internet outage? We chat about movies. While I'm sure the Web News crew was running around in a panic, Stephen and I talked about recent movies, Billy Wilder movies, last year's best and worst, this year's best, and the merits of the Black Dahlia. So, to borrow from my post in the Screening Room, what's the best movie you guys have seen this year? For me, it's David Fincher's restrained but still frightening Zodiac. Look for my review in tomorrow's GuideLive section.

I've been rather pleased with the response to my story about the texas bar exam (which ends today). For several days, it has been one of the most emailed stories on the site. And I've been emailed comments/frustrations I'm not going to disclose here.
That almost makes good for the story being published -on a rather inconspicuous spot(namely in the obituaries page wednesday) -in a shorter form and without boxes- )...

3. "Delta Farce" -- Larry the Cable Guy as a soldier bound for Iraq. Instead he's dropped into a Mexican village. Hilarity!
2. "Are We Done Yet?" -- John C. McGinley at his finest. Ice Cube is OK.
1. "Because I Said So" -- Any movie with Piper Perabo deserves at least a three-star rating. Throw in a divine Lauren Graham and it's magic!

I think the e-mail address (go2guy@kip.com) made me laugh even harder than the text. It also reminds me of "The Outside Scoop" (http://www.theonion.com/content/columnists/third_times_even_more_the) column in "The Onion" (http://theonion.com)

I, too, am glad about the public's reaction to my most recent endeavor -- my hostile takeover of journalism.
Despite The Nation's characterization of me as the "Frankenstein monster of (journalism's) multifaceted identity crisis," I like to think I'm a visionary. Think Citizen Kane meets Ayn Rand.
So what do we share, young scribes? I, like many of you interns, believe in unrestrained egoism. Who better to judge yourself than you? When I need a pat on the back, I call on my most trusted adviser: Uncle Rupy. (Me.)
And with that, I bid you farewell. Dallas, here I come.
