Warehouse fire

I was on my way back to work from lunch around 1:15 p.m. when I spotted something in the sky south of I-30 near downtown. A huge, black cloud billowed at least 300 feet into the air. I knew something wasn't right. I immediately called my editor, and she told me to drive to the scene.
About 10 minutes later, after meandering my way through South Oak Cliff to Industrial Boulevard, I arrived at the warehouse in the 300 block of Cadiz Street. By the time I got there, there were only a few firefighters and police on the scene. The area hadn't been closed off, and the fire was still relatively small. Over the next hour, the fire quickly escalated to a five-alarm fire, and it zipped through the 400,000 square foot warehouse that was being demolished.
I got covered in ash, had my eyes burned by the smoke and got soaked from the hoses and rain. It was definitely a good reporting/intern experience. (I'm sure some blog is going to criticize me for using the word "good" and "five-alarm fire" in the same post).

I won't insult you because I've been insulted all day long from my post (haha)... but that is really freaking awesome! I think all the interns are a little jealous of that.. I know I am.

Matthew,
You get a pat on the back for calling in and letting your editor know there was breaking news. There are too many jaded news people who are punching a time clock.
As for your thrill over your assignments, never lose that excitement for your work. It's the difference between those for whom this is just a job and those who are following their passion.
