Time Change

I’m from California – home to earthquakes, Disneyland, and, as of late, collapsing freeway connectors. My drive to the Lone Star State sent me through five states and across two time zones.

The latter makes for interesting conversations, especially considering I keep forgetting to factor in the time difference when calling loved ones and friends back home.

In my attempt to maintain connections in the Golden State, I interrupted two dinners Monday night. Yesterday I woke a friend up from what she called a “major deep sleep.”

I predict the time will come when I’m on the receiving end of this kind of time challenged attention. I’m betting it will come by way of my fiancé, who will forget that 11 p.m. Pacific Standard Time – what was our usual conversation time until last week – is 1 a.m. Central Standard Time.

I’m trying to get through the week without blaming my new time zone for my difficultly waking up as well. When my alarm clock goes off at 7:30 a.m. here, it is 5:30 a.m. in California. Yikes. It makes me tired just thinking about it.
