They Weren't Kidding

When my supervisor Holly told me on Tuesday that Wednesday would be my first full-on day of work, she wasn't kidding. Boy, did my inbox fill up fast with event submission after event submission. The admin tool was a little difficult to get used to (just because you've entered the date doesn't mean it's going to show up on the site) and after getting so frustrated I couldn't see the listings I had posted, I learned that there are two vastly different versions of the GuideLive site, and I had been on the Cache site, which doesn't update live like the, uh, Live site does. But now I've gotten the hang of it and finished my stack of 35 events or so. It's a lot of fun giving "Recommended" checks to the ones that spark my interest. Well, now I believe I've got more events and a lot more concerts to start posting. But, I did finish my first draft of my Ghost Rider review. I'm excited!

postscript--I realize that when you're on the fourth floor, you don't need to hide your pop culture savviness. Everyone here is just like you. I think I'm comfortable enough to bring my beloved Simpsons lunchbox on Monday, which reminds me: At 7 p.m., I will have completed my first week of work. To quote Keanu Reeves, "Whoa."

Before you walk out the door this evening, thank Holly. In fact, make sure you grab a diet Coke for her before you head out. She doesn't really do coffee. Holly is the one who will make this summer easy on you. I'm just offering a little advice from the Collin County office, as someone who once worked with her. Ah, the good old days. Email me for tips. :)

In the newsroom we're supposed to hide our pop-culture savvy? When I read that I was more surprised than John Lithgow in Harry and the Hendersons. More shocked than Dixie when Charlene left Designing Women. Let out a bigger gasp than when Sandra Bullock takes hold of the boat in Speed 2. My eyes were wider than Carrie when she first saw Mr. Big. Wait, maybe I SHOULD hide things like that.

And we wonder why people think we're brothers, Mike.
