On "assignment"

Besides us being treated like employees here at the DMN, there aren't many perks of being an intern. Average pay, sometimes long hours and the obligatory weather story. But sometimes (I assume after two summers of being an intern here), the higher-ups are willing to grant a week escape from here. That's what happened me this past week. As Josh, Kip and the other interns were keeping this blog afloat, I was floating in the Atlantic Ocean, getting sand stuck between my toes and tanning in the tropical sun.
But there was a caveat. I started here two weeks before most interns did, and I'll be here a week longer in August. Now only if I could convince them to make me the paper's Georgia coast correspondent...
