Desk envy
I’m not too proud to admit I have desk envy.
The arts and lifestyles crews on the fourth floor of The Dallas Morning News building have an amazing assortment of awesome desk decorations. Sure, there are pictures of the family or a significant other, but there’s also a lot of out-of-the-ordinary loot. I’m talking pink flamingos, crazy hats, and bobble heads.
The only thing remotely close I had to cool was my colorful sunflower cookie from the cafeteria. It was promptly eaten.
Tomorrow, I’m bringing my miniature pink flamingo gift set a former co-worker gave me. It’s bound to start the party in my cubicle.

This reminds me of a fourth-floor conversation that Nancy Moore (of Guide) had with critic Chris Vognar at Halloween one year. She had come to work dressed as Elly May Clampett from The Beverly Hillbillies and was looking for a stuffed monkey to carry around. Chris dug around in his desk and found a stuffed monkey. Nancy said it wasn't the right kind, so he went back to his desk and brought back ANOTHER monkey. Impressive.

Honestly, who'se desk hasn't been improved by a miniature pink flamingo gift set?
I've been trying to find my mini garden gnome all week.
